  2. 'We don't take our atmosphere for granted'published at 13:48 10 April

Liverpool v Atalanta (Thu, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on his team's home record: "The relationship between the team and the crowd makes the difference. But that atmosphere is based on experience.

"If we don't play well, it won't be the best experience but if we play well, they will get behind us and give us their all.

"We don't ever take our record or our atmosphere for granted. We know our end of the deal and to get that atmosphere, we have to play our best game.

"But the fans are super positive and optimistic about the team. And the players deserve that. It is a great place to watch football and I am looking forward to tomorrow night."

  3. 'It will be a tricky game for both of us'published at 13:44 10 April

Liverpool v Atalanta (Thu, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on facing Atalanta for the first time in over three years and Pep Guardiola's comments in 2019 that playing the Italian side is "like going to the dentist": "Playing against us can be like going to the dentist as well, to be honest. That is what Pep said about coming to Atalanta.

"They are a consistent team but every player has different skillsets. We are expecting them to be super organised and they are very experienced.

"It was three and a half years ago, but we are not the same team from that time either. There has probably been about 1500 games in that time.

"So I cannot compare to the team we played that long ago but it will be a tricky game for both teams."

  4. 'You want to leave the club in a better place than when you started'published at 13:40 10 April

Liverpool v Atalanta (Thu, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on advice for Atalanta manager, Gian Piero Gasperini: "It is quite uncommon, for me to be here for as long as I have and for him to be there for that long.

"I think you have to leave the club in a better state than when you arrived and we have tried to do that in our culture, an understanding, a mentality inside the club. It is independent of the manager or the head coach, it is just how you deal with stuff.

"The rest is just results. Maybe trophies, maybe not, but results.

"What you leave is a better culture and I am pretty sure that's what he has done too. It is a great club, they had a difficult situation in Covid but it is great to see that we are going to play there now in front of a full crowd and a full stadium.

"In this moment, I don't plan a further career as a manager. Maybe ask me again in a year, but not in this moment."

  5. 'We are used to it, it's our normal rhythm'published at 13:36 10 April

Liverpool v Atalanta (Thu, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on planning for so many condensed games: "We didn't really have this last year because we were knocked out of Europe pretty quickly but other than that, it's a pretty standard situation for us.

"It's not much about training, it's about meetings and analysis and that kind of thing. We always have to prepare for the next opponent.

"Sunday to Thursday is quite comfortable but then the Thursday to Sunday is tricky. We are used to that, though. It is our normal rhythm.

"It's when the rhythm gets disrupted that it becomes challenging. We try to make the best of it but we don't train a lot nowadays, we don't train long, we just prepare."

  6. 'They just need time'published at 13:32 10 April

Liverpool v Atalanta (Thu, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on the senior players coming back in: "It's different, but it's not difficult. I don't really talk about the likes of Trent [Alexander-Arnold], [Diogo] Jota and Alisson.

"The first day they step back on the training ground we have to get them back in and play them again. We have had these situations before and it's probably never healthy, it doesn't always help, but they are just happy that we're in the situation we are in.

"They have been out for a long time and they need to get back step-by-step. But if they are ready to get minutes, it's perfect timing because of how much we are playing.

"The young boys who have stepped in, yes they have been brilliant but they cannot play every game either. We need all our players for as many games as we can, we need quality and we need to win all our games.

"It is good news, I can't see anything negative in it. They just need time."

  7. 'Between the whistles, we've got to all be Liverpool'published at 13:28 10 April

Liverpool v Atalanta (Thu, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on fan protests against ticket prices, and the effects on the Anfield atmosphere: "The flags aren't there but the people are there. But I understand the concerns, and the discussions.

"It's a tricky one from my point of view to say. I didn't know about this but the opinion is clear. We want our fans in the stadium, we want Liverpool for everybody.

"We are a self-sustaining club and I can say that for as long as I have been here every single pound has gone into the football, it is not wasted, the club is doing very good things for the community.

"But of course I understand. I am sure they will find a solution. It maybe starts with a protest, that leads to discussions and that is good. But we have to make sure that nothing gets between us and the supporters.

"Yes, discuss it, this should happen if they are not happy but between the whistles we just have to all be Liverpool and that is what I am asking for."

  8. 'We can't think of the final yet'published at 13:25 10 April

Liverpool v Atalanta (Thu, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on a "farewell" trophy: "It's not a personal thing for me really, it is for us, from when we were there eight years ago in Basel and lost to the serial winners of the competition.

"So that wasn't a great night but it was the start of a lot of other things.

"Last year, it didn't look like we would be in international football at all but when we saw our chance, we were desperate. And you only do that because you want to win the competition and there are only great teams left in it now.

"We know what Atalanta is all about, they are different to play against as all Italian teams are. They are super disciplined, attacking, so we have to be at our best over two legs to get into the next round.

"We can't think of the final yet."

  9. 'There's been no decision yet'published at 13:22 10 April

Liverpool v Atalanta (Thu, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota, Alisson and Stefan Bajcetic fitness updates: "We will have to see about that.

"Obviously we didn't rush it with them. Trent [Alexander-Arnold] and [Diogo] Jota have been training together a lot for a couple of weeks. They did a lot of training but they were doing very well yesterday.

"Stefan [Bajcetic] is different because he has been out for a little longer but now he is training for longer as well. I think after the long spell out, we might give him a game in the U21s and see how we go with that.

"But that won't be the case with the other three, Alisson as well. We will see how they go but they are back in training and we have to see how we use them. Yes, we need them back but we need them in the best possible shape and we need them in rhythm.

"It's always a challenge to reintegrate them but they are quality players so they will manage it. We will see over the next days and weeks but as for tomorrow, there's no decision yet."

  10. Postpublished at 13:17 10 April

You can now watch Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking with the media at the top of this page.

We just heard Harvey Elliott speaking about his chances of representing England at Euro 2024.

Elliott, 21, has been a regular for England's under-21s but is yet to be rewarded with a senior cap.

Let's have a quick poll using the thumbs below.

Thumbs up if you think he should be in the squad or thumbs down for no.

  11. 'I'd be honoured, but I'm focused on Liverpool'published at 13:16 10 April

Liverpool v Atalanta (Thu, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool's Harvey Elliott on his England ambitions: "I haven't had any chats with him [Gareth Southgate]. But my main priority is Liverpool and if I put in the performances here, you never know what's around the corner.

"I've been with England U21's and I'm always so happy to represent my country, that's been massive for me.

"I'm focusing on Liverpool and putting in performances for the team. If I do get called up at the end of the season then I'll be very happy and honoured, but for now I am focused on putting in performances for this club."

  12. 'Anfield is one of a kind'published at 13:15 10 April

Liverpool v Atalanta (Thu, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool's Harvey Elliott on the Anfield effect: "It's our fans, they're just amazing. Not just at Anfield but everywhere, they travel all over the world to support us and they drive us on. They're our 12th man and walking out to "You'll Never Walk Alone" at Anfield, there's no better buzz.

"Even on a bad day they get behind us. Anfield is one of a kind and our fans are extremely special.

"I'm sure we'll be hearing exactly that tomorrow night."

  13. 'They're a strong team with great players'published at 13:13 10 April

Liverpool v Atalanta (Thu, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool's Harvey Elliott on preparing for European games and Atalanta: "It's not that different, the preparation is the same.

"It's the same as we would prepare for any other game. It's about going out there and putting on our best performance against a tough side so for us, we're ready for anything and we need to make sure we're prepared.

"We know that they're a very attacking team, they've scored a lot of goals this season so we're expecting that. We're going to have to be very organised defensively because we know that they'll take their opportunities.

"They're a strong team with some great players that could cause us some problems. We'll be analysing them and then come tomorrow, hopefully we'll be aware of the ins and outs of what they do.

"We just need to make sure we focus on our best performances and hopefully that will bring a positive result for us."

  14. 'I want to be starting games'published at 13:10 10 April

Liverpool v Atalanta (Thu, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool's Harvey Elliott on making an impact off the bench: "It's just about making sure I'm analysing the game and working out where I can exploit different teams.

"I look for areas I can get myself into and attack that way. But frankly, I want to be starting games. I want to be the player that's walking out, not coming on.

"It doesn't mean I'm not grateful, I'm always grateful for every opportunity in the shirt but it's about kicking on and getting myself a starting place in that team and I'm working very hard to make that happen for myself.

"I know I'm still young but I'm not a kid, I'm a man, I've had to grow up quickly so I am taking that responsibility into my own hands. If that means knocking on the gaffer's door then I'll do it.

"But at the same time I know I need to be patient and wait my turn but when I get those chances, I will take them."

  15. 'We want to give everything back for him'published at 13:06 10 April

Liverpool v Atalanta (Thu, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool's Harvey Elliott on winning the Europa League for Jurgen Klopp's last season: "With the gaffer leaving at the end of the season, winning it would be the best possible way for that to end.

"We as players will be doing everything we can for that to happen and we want to give everything back to him.

"He's been so influential in all our careers."

  16. 'Quickly forgotten about'published at 13:03 10 April

Liverpool v Atalanta (Thu, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool's Harvey Elliott on Sunday's draw with Manchester United: "Yeah, very disappointed after the game but it was quickly forgotten about. The good thing about football is we've got another game to focus on so we're looking ahead to tomorrow and putting in a good performance."

  18. Liverpool 'heavily linked' with Amorimpublished at 12:57 10 April

There is a chance that Liverpool could face their former player Xabi Alonso's side Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League finals.

Alonso was linked with a move back to Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp's departure at the end of this season but said he was staying in Germany.

Since then, the Reds' attention has turned to Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim, though it is not believed that they have reached a verbal agreement yet.

Amorim led the Portuguese side to a first league title in 19 years at the age of just 36 when they won it in 2021, and that success prompted him to be linked with a host of top clubs from around Europe.

You can read more about Amorim here.

  19. 🚨 News conference alert 🚨published at 12:48 10 April

We'll be hearing from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp shortly.

The German is due to be addressing the media at 13:00 BST, ahead of Thursday's Europa League quarter-final against Atalanta at Anfield.

You can watch his news conference live at the top of this page and we'll also be bringing you all of his top lines.

Klopp's side squandered a chance to go top of the Premier League after their 2-2 draw with Manchester United on Sunday, but can anyone stop them in the Europa League?

Trent Alexander Arnold, Alisson, Diogo Jota and Stefan Bajcetic all returned to training on Tuesday and we can expect an update on their fitness today.

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery is also due to face the media this afternoon as they prepare to face Lille in the quarter-finals of the Europa Conference League.

West Ham face Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen tomorrow night, with David Moyes facing the press later at 18:00 BST.

  20. 'Man City can cause Madrid issues'published at 12:42 10 April

    Real Madrid 3-3 Man City

Will Manchester City be happy with a draw?

It is a tough one to answer.

    At 2-1 down? Yes absolutely.

At 3-2 up? Maybe a tad disappointed.

Ultimately, they are in a strong position to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League for a fourth successive season, and, at home in the second leg, will be confident of doing so.

They were vulnerable on the counter-attack at the Bernabeu, especially without the pace of Kyle Walker, and will have to be wary of that next Wednesday.

However, they created enough chances throughout the game to know that they can cause Madrid issues.

They blew Carlo Ancelotti's side away in Manchester last season's semi-finals and it will be fascinating to see if Guardiola's team, who are one point off top in the Premier League and into the FA Cup semi-finals, can do it again and continue their march towards another Treble.
