Leon Bailey had to be held back from Aston Villa team-mate Ollie Watkins during Monday's draw with Liverpool

Unai Emery's men took a step closer to Champions League football next season as two late goals saw them draw 3-3 at Villa Park.

Liverpool raced into a 3-1 lead early in the second half after a superb header by Jarell Quansah for his first Premier League goal.

Villa thought they had pulled one back moments later through Ollie Watkins before the strike was ruled out for offside after a review by the VAR.

Bailey was not pleased with Watkins and screamed at him as he started to walk in the direction of the striker.

Midfielder Douglas Luiz then intervened and put his arm across just as the Jamaican winger looked set to go face-to-face with Watkins.

Aston Villa went on to earn a point in Jurgen Klopp's final away match thanks to a late brace by substitute Dhon Duran.

Liverpool had taken the lead after just 63 seconds following a howler by Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez before Youri Tielemans leveled the score.

Goals from Cody Gakpo and Quansah saw Liverpool go a 3-1 up before Duran's late heroics.

The draw at Villa Park now means Unai Emery's men are on the verge of qualifying for the Champions League for the first time since the 1982-83 season.

The feat will be confirmed if fifth-placed Tottenham fail to beat Manchester City on Tuesday night.
